We are finally going to repaint our newly purchased mint green
house, and have now scraped and washed it. We discovered some rotten end pieces and are wondering how best to repair them?
All corners are covered with small "metal pieces" that are bent and screwed in (one for each corner and row of paneling), is that a sensible solution to keep?
Spontaneously, it feels like it might not be sensible since some ends are damaged, but it could just as easily be because they weren't properly treated, or simply the passage of time, or am I completely off track?
I've never seen this solution, does it sound familiar to anyone here? It was probably(?) done in the 70s, when the house was extended.
What are the alternatives? Would it be smart to put vertical paneling on the corners? Although it doesn't feel quite right to do that on our flat functionalist house...
We managed to get paneling in the right dimensions (turned out not to be entirely simple...), and are considering just splicing them. How much more than the damaged part should we take to be safe? Or is it best to replace the entire long boards? It's a maximum of 10 cm that is damaged in the different places and at the bottom edge of all boards.
General tips on façade repair are also gratefully received!

THANK YOU for your detailed response!
We took a walk in the area over the weekend and saw some houses (similar to ours) with corner boards where it didn't disrupt the overall impression. So we might consider that after all. Since the wood is in very good condition everywhere except for some ends, it would feel reassuring to protect them a bit more.
We have, in any case, ordered enough timber (might as well take the opportunity when we found some)!
By the way, I expressed myself a bit strangely, not all the boards are damaged, but those that are, are damaged at the bottom edge.
We are currently priming, and have unscrewed all the metal ends. We will probably finish painting everything without the metal ends, and think about corner boards in the meantime.
Thanks for the help,
Kristina
