I have a staircase that I can't get in order. I have tightened all the screws but the creaking remains. The staircase is attached to some kind of wedge/wooden piece then into the wall, no stringers are against the wall.

The risers/child protection "pop" partially out of their groove when you walk on them. They can't be glued. I guess I only have the screw option left. Does anyone know how to screw and which screws to use? Do I screw the treads into the stringers, angle screw? And the risers from above through the tread?

How do I get the screw to take hold in the tread and stringer?

  • Wooden staircase with gaps between steps and risers, seen from below. The steps are attached to a side rail but slightly misaligned.
  • A wooden staircase without risers, attached to a wall, with creaky steps. A child safety gate with a red cloth is at the bottom, on a black tiled floor.
Addition: The step height is only about 12-14mm
