Now I have a strange thought that I wanted to check if you think it will work.

Today I have railing posts that are 2 pieces of 45x95 screwed together that I plan to clad and paint. I've looked at various materials.
First, I considered exterior paneling. But I only find cracked and warped boards :(, I think it will be difficult for me to make a nice post.

Now I'm considering either planed timber or pine shelves. Could there be any disadvantage to using shelves instead of planed timber? I only find the advantages :) for example, planed timber is really expensive :( and there's probably a greater risk that planed timber will warp when it's attached to the post compared to glued pine?

What would you use? Or can you recommend any other material?

Maybe plant hops or wild wine to grow and twine up along the poles. It could look very nice!

I don't think shelf boards/glulam will work. They will warp as much as boards, and the glue joints are probably not very moisture-resistant. But why aren't regular panel or trim boards good enough? They are on the outside of every single house, and around windows and doors. And they don't look that awful, do they?
