Hi forum! :)

I looked at an apartment with a sleeping alcove. The problem is that the alcove is a bit too short for my liking. On one side, there is a thick (≈20 cm) load-bearing wall. The apartment is on the 6th floor of 6.

1. Do you think there is a possibility to "plane" the load-bearing wall by about 10 cm?
2. What does the process look like, roughly? Do you need to apply for a building permit? Do you need to hire a structural engineer?
3. How long might the entire process take, roughly?
4. What might it cost, roughly?

Best regards,
Chris

Welcome to the forum!

1. A structural engineer needs to speak on that, but hardly outright without any other measure to support the roof load.
2. A building permit is required for all interventions in load-bearing structures. You also need permission from the board, which can deny it.
3. Building permits should, in principle, be processed in 10 weeks, but if the application needs to be supplemented (which in principle can be discovered in week 9), the number of weeks starts over from when the supplement is received.

If it is an apartment-separating wall, for example, the board may deny it because it can become too noisy for the neighbor. There may also be pipes for water, sewage, heating, and ventilation, etc., in the wall.

It is a bygganmälan, not bygglov, for this.
