No, I don't agree with that either.
 
If you have an iPhone, you can search for "crown molding" and find some apps to calculate the saw settings when you have the molding flat or standing. There should be similar options for other phones as well ...

If you have a swanhalslist, you can lay it flat if you miter at 31.62 degrees (fixed position on some Dewalt) and tilt at 33.9 degrees, then the miter will be 45 degrees.

About to install cove moulding in the hallway ceiling, just 16 corners to cut. :rolleyes:
 
Start with scrap pieces and expect that you will saw incorrectly at least once. Begin with a medium-length piece so that you can reuse it *when* you've sawed incorrectly.
