We have a split-level house from 1965. Under the garage, which is at ground level, we have a large storage room, about 20 m2. We have had recurring problems with moisture penetration in one wall below ground. Above, at ground level, there is a smooth brick wall facing south. We have re-drained twice, most recently 4 years ago, when it was done properly. Still, the moisture penetration continues, but almost only during heavy rain with a southerly wind.
We are starting to believe that rainwater is going through the brick wall and running down into the concrete wall below. Could it be so? There is no moisture barrier between the concrete wall and the brick wall; I don't think they built like that in 1965. There is no noticeable moisture on the inside of the garage wall above the basement. Does anyone have any tips on how we should proceed? We live in the Gothenburg area.
Best regards

What does the outside look like?

Hang a tarpaulin on the brick wall for a few weeks to see if it makes any difference.

Could be the driving rain reaching the air gap behind the brick when the brick is saturated, leading down to the foundation wall.

Thanks for the quick feedback. We have considered this and will give it a try.
