Conservatory
hi,J jimnor said:I built a similar solution a few years ago. I thought the ceiling would be too low and moved the patio's roof onto the house's roof and created a vault with 16mm multiwall polycarbonate that then transitions into a standing seam metal roof when I came over the house. This gave an airy feeling instead of a feeling of being enclosed.
If this is facing south, I want to warn you that it will become very hot, so I used smoked multiwall polycarbonate, and I am very pleased with it!
I consulted two different architects to come up with this solution and recommend you do the same. I got a solution that enhances the feel of the entire house, where the patio became part of the house and not an appendage that doesn't really fit in...
I paid 12' + a whisky ;-) for the architects + draftsman who produced the building permit drawings.
Then the rest cost ~80'
I don't know if you're still here, but I'm very interested in seeing how your solution turned out. I have a summer house that is very low and angled, and I'm desperately seeking a suitable solution that works at all. Initially, a shed roof, but it will be very low and difficult to fit glulam beams without obstructing existing windows. Maybe a solution like yours could work, but I don't quite understand how it is done.

Hi,
The best solution I've found is to replace the entire roof on the angle so that about half becomes a conservatory and the other remains the current room, but they get a shared gable roof that goes up to the ridge of the other part.
However, I'm skipping the action for my part because I don't want to start doing such a roof lift.
