I hope this is the right forum category.

It so happens that the downstairs of the house we're going to build will have OSB. The upstairs won't. Why, don't ask me.

But now I want to ask, what difference will I notice if I choose to go with, or without OSB?

What I know I want is solid and strong, as well as quiet walls with little sound transmission.

Someone with experience who can say how you compare walls with and without OSB in these areas, quietness, stability, and feel?

If you compare a wall (interior wall) with two layers of plaster on each side with a wall where the inner layer has been replaced with, for example, plywood or OSB, you get a wall with poorer soundproofing. I don't remember exactly, but I believe the differences between the walls I've described are about 2-4 dB.

I've heard that gypsum provides better soundproofing. However, OSB has the advantage of better load-bearing capacity for hanging/mounting items on the wall.

The question, though, is how much better sound insulation OSB+Gypsum provides compared to just Gypsum?

OSB+gypsum provides worse sound insulation than just gypsum, assuming the same number of boards are used.

From what I understand, it's a question of density, so chipboard should be more sound-dampening than OSB. Gypsum + chipboard are sound-dampening and offer better load-bearing capacity and the possibility for hanging, though not as strong for hanging as OSB. But if we have such weights in a home, you would certainly adapt with extra boards and noggins at these points.

Eksjöhus offered OSB for the rest of the house. Nice...

But... the question would then be whether to ask for chipboard instead... if it is more soundproofing.

But how much more? I mean, if it's 1 dB better soundproofing in chipboard, what difference does it make? :)

We have plasterboard, OSB, studs, OSB, plasterboard. In the framework, we have insulation. We are super satisfied with the soundproofing. More sound 'leaks' through the doors than through the walls where almost nothing leaks at all. The important thing is also to fill any gaps between the ceiling battens with insulation. Just pack it in.

Thanks, sounds promising!

In technical terms, if I need to explain to the carpenters, what should I say to make them understand that I want additional soundproofing around doors as well...?

that you fit the doors. Also, let the wedge remain even if you use programaskruv for the mounting.

OSB versus chipboard gives OSB boards a big plus, more wood to screw things into. Plywood sheets are naturally the best but much more expensive or a wall of timber :D

We have installed plasterboard/chipboard/insulation/chipboard/plasterboard.

Sound from adjacent rooms (below and beside) now comes through the floor joists. It might be a good idea to add insulation there if it is accessible.

It may be a good idea to place a string of soft sealant between the floor & wall as well as between the wall & ceiling and ensure that intersecting inner corners are filled or sealed to make it tight.

Does anyone have an idea about the approximate prices regarding 13 mm plasterboard, OSB, and particle board (per square meter).

Byggmax has these prices:
13mm Gypsum: from about 23 SEK/sqm
11mm OSB: about 44 SEK/sqm
10mm Particleboard: around 25 SEK/sqm
12mm Particleboard: around 32 SEK/sqm
