It's time to consider what type of ceiling I should have in the basement. The ceiling is low, about 2m, so a durable surface is desirable. Currently, there are some sort of 15mm acoustic panels glued to the wood paneling underneath. They are quite fragile and look shabby because it's easy to scrape the ceiling when moving around wardrobes, etc. The basement will be used partly for storage and partly as a bedroom when a lot of people come to visit. The acoustic panels seem fairly easy to break down.
The requirements are durable, light, and cheap. Since I've put Cembrit panels on the walls, you can see that aesthetics are lower on the list. I will mill 6mm deep slots for aluminum strips for LED lighting in the ceiling, so super thin material won’t work. The staircase down to the basement is narrow with a 90-degree turn when you come down. Sheets in the size of 2400x1200 are therefore not possible to carry down; 2400x900 might work.
So what should I choose? Durability of the ceiling isn't usually a common factor to consider, of course. Perhaps hard gypsum, does it have brown paper that needs painting? Pre-finished laminated ceiling panels? Glue up an 8mm laminate floor? That would certainly be durable.
Unfortunately, I don't have either a brad nailer or a compressor, so I was thinking of gluing instead.
But it's possible to nail laminate flooring in the groove?
It was Bauhaus foil-covered particleboard. The foil is a bit fragile, but the boards can be painted if desired.
I also got to test my latest invention, the little Dewalt, 32mm drainpipe, some hose from a scrapped shoe dryer, and a piece of polystyrene. It sucks both from the circular saw's original extraction and directly at the blade. Almost dust-free cutting of ceiling boards
