Working on fixing up the basement. Considering the ceiling. Currently, there are fiber cement boards, and a lot of installations go in the ceiling. My idea was to set up joists and then screw boards into them with a little space in between so you can see the electrical and pipes.

If the house were to be inspected, would I get a remark for using wood in the basement?

The basement is completely dry but not a living area.

No problem with wood in the ceiling in the basement. I just tore out ours that had been there for almost a hundred years, bone dry. Just make sure to leave some air against the outer walls so you don't put wood against stone/concrete there.
