Chipboard in kitchen behind oven

Hi! I'm in the process of renovating a kitchen. One of the walls had plasterboard in such bad shape that I tore it down and decided to put up a 12 mm chipboard instead. On this side, I don't have any tiles or sink or anything, but there is a built-in oven. I was wondering if I need plasterboard behind the oven for heat and fire risk?

This internal wall was braced quite weakly, just 2"2.

No, not unless it is specified in the assembly instructions for the ungen.
It is usually mounted enclosed in a tall cabinet made of laminated particle board on the sides.
Some ovens have instructions about an air gap and free airflow, some have built-in fans that cool the casing.

But it can be good to use gypsum if you later want to tile.

It is perfectly fine to tile on particle board when dealing with small areas like in a kitchen.

Well, that's clear, but have you seen how beautiful cracks you can get if it moves? Which chipboards do because of the humidity.

If the chipboard moves, it is most likely because it has not been fixed well enough to the underlying studs. The same would happen with a plasterboard.

What? The studs are at 60 cm centers, wood is a living material and changes character depending on humidity, gypsum is a dead material and not as sensitive.

It is definitely measurable and absolutely not negligible. I would guess that it is about a 1 per mille dimensional change in all directions in the Swedish climate.

The wall cracks in a relative's house move quite a lot between winter and summer. I would estimate around 5mm and it cracks tiles, I can assure you.
