Hello,

I have installed a small wood stove in the kitchen (Scanspis). With a flue pipe at the back that connects to the chimney at an angle. Everything is sealed and ready. Then the chimney sweep came and noted the following issues:
- Leaky flue: Expected since it hasn't been used for 15 years. So, I’m installing a liner, with top plate, bottom cone, mortar with C-bruk, fill with vermiculite, and test with a small smoke cartridge: Fine and dandy :)
- Missing hearth plate: No problem, I’m ordering a glass plate from the glazier with the correct dimensions.
- Missing roof ladder & slip protection: No problem, I’ll install them.
- Kitchen cabinet/ceiling connection flush with chimney: Wait now... 150 cm up from the fireplace, there is a wooden bracket that fits tightly to the chimney. (nicely done if I may say so). But could this be a problem? The entire joist is flush with the chimney and also the inner ceiling, which is wood paneling...

So what should I do?
Do I have to fix it or take a chance that the next (another) chimney sweep doesn’t care / misses it?
If I have to fix it:
- What is the safety distance?
- What counts as fireproof material between the beam and the base?

A bit unsure....

PS a small extra question: do I need a cleaning hatch? there is a hatch in the angle of the flue where you can insert a vacuum cleaner hose but you can’t visually inspect inside the pipe as it is tightly placed... DS
