When we renovated our 'old' kitchen three years ago, we received a defective countertop. After some disputes with Ikea, we gave up and solved the problem ourselves.
The cracks were quite numerous and some were really large. The largest one I sealed with silicone at the bottom as a stop, then filled all the cracks with 2-comp. epoxy mixed with sawdust from the orbital sander. Once everything dried, I sanded everything down with K120 and repeated the process. Sanded roughly again with K120 and then finished with K240. Then countertop oil.
Now, after a year, it still looks just as nice and no new cracks have appeared. The repair looks like a slightly darker grain and not at all conspicuous
There is probably some professional solution for this, hence the title 'kludge'
