Hello,

I'm considering installing ceiling paneling in the vacation house, today it looks like in the attached picture. Can I install the ceiling paneling directly on this or does it need to be removed first?

Wooden ceiling with visible planks and a black chimney pipe in a cottage, showing current state before adding ceiling panels.

It is certainly possible to add another layer of paneling.
But why, don't you think it looks nice now?
What would the new paneling look like? Installed in which direction?

I was thinking of putting up something like this https://www.bauhaus.se/takpanel-hun...elG0Go5eJi9b19lXydkP73c_ne8Y6tLRoCsXMQAvD_BwE.

I want white, considering that maybe the existing ones can be painted, but there is a gap and there is roofing felt, so painting on it might not work?

I can also imagine another approach.
More labor-intensive, but probably cheaper too.
Paint the existing ceiling panel white; it's quite easy to roll, but the floor needs to be protected with paper of course.
If the black gaps are bothersome, you can get moldings, e.g., foglist 8x21, and place them over the joints.

And then you still have real wood in the ceiling :)

If the black gaps are disturbing, you can get some strips, e.g. sealing strips 8x21 and place them over the joints.

And then you still have real wood in the ceiling :)

The black in the gaps is roofing felt, is it okay to paint on it?

It's probably okay, but it might be very finicky.
It's not just the felt, but also the edges of the panel boards that need to be painted white.

But why not try on a small section, about half a square meter or so, and see how it turns out?

Hi, I have a similar ceiling, though painted green 🙃. I also want to paint it white. I see this post is from 2018, so how did you do it and do you have a picture? Very grateful for any help! 😊 Kindly, Kicki L

Hi,
We ended up spray painting the ceiling white, and it turned out great. Unfortunately, I don't have a picture, but I can try to take one this weekend when we'll be up at the cabin.
