We are considering buying a house with a cedar facade. The location is relatively exposed (strong wind and proximity to the sea). Can we leave the cedar as is, or does it need to be oiled (and if so, how often)? We don't mind if the color of the facade changes, but we obviously want the facade to last as long as possible.

Thanks for the link! It seems like you can do either, but there are no guarantees that untreated cedar won't be affected by black mold. Once you start oiling it, it should be repeated every 4 years.

It can never be wrong to surface-treat.. or? ???

My response when I bought my cedarwood was to oil exposed parts every 4 years and other parts approximately every 8 years. The oil sold by cederträväst contains protection against black mold.

I think cedar looks nice! But how is it price-wise?

My 170 m2 cost approximately 400 SEK/m2 including oil and stainless steel nails. I have tongue-and-groove paneling. Shiplap paneling is somewhat cheaper.
