We are going to install wall plasterboard (1200x2500) on a sloped ceiling (38 degrees) and will use 45x45 battens. We're wondering whether to space the battens at cc300 or cc600? We are going to insulate between the battens, so cc600 would be the most convenient. =)

Received advice in another thread a few days ago, sparse cc30 was mentioned to me from several sources.
 
Yep, cc300, otherwise the gipset is likely to fail.
 
Then it will be as follows:
195mm rafters (roof trusses) cc1200 with air gap and 170mm insulation.
45mm studs cc600 with 45mm insulation.
45mm studs cc300 with 45mm insulation.
Do you think it will be good?

use 28x70 as sparse and skip the insulation there.
 
What are the advantages of regular sparse compared to 45-rule? Apart from it being a bit easier to hit the sparse. =)

I would prefer not to have thinner insulation than the 260mm I have already accounted for.
 
why not alternate trusses with 45x95 and then lattice, so you get the desired thickness.
 
cc30 if you place the boards along the battens. If you place the boards across the battens, you can have up to cc60.

In the slanted ceiling, I was thinking of leaving it without battens, and instead placing OSB under the plasterboard to make it stable. Is there any disadvantage with that compared to using battens?
 
more expensive, more work.
 
hello.
nail onto the rafters with 2"2" or 2"4" on edge and you'll get more insulation. With 2"4", just use nail plates on the side.
then space with 28x70 on 30 cc.

Hi! I'm working on the same thing and wondering how to do it.
I've already installed horizontal 45 battens in the sloping ceiling to create an installation layer and break thermal bridges, etc.

The questions are piling up; will it hold to install ceiling panels at cc60? Should one use ceiling gypsum board? Should OSB be used in the sloping ceiling to compensate for the high center distance? Should wood paneling be installed in the sloping ceiling, and is cc60 sufficient then?

I've come so far that it's not really the time to redo and install battens...
 
I can announce that I'm using 45x45 with cc30 now. It probably would have been just as good to skip the installation kit in the slanted ceiling, as it would have been much easier to put up spacing, the 45s are long and often warped. But it feels good to have a little extra insulation in the ceiling, it's 195+95+45, but as I said, it probably would have been just as good with 195+120. Now I know for next time how much extra work it is!
