Hello,
I am in the process of converting our detached garage from 1985 into a furnished space intended for a home theater. The garage has been additionally insulated and has an attic that is fairly spacious with about 20cm of sawdust as insulation.
The concrete slab seems to be fairly free from moisture as I have done some tests with construction plastic. I installed an air-to-air heat pump a few weeks ago, and the humidity is about 47% at 15 degrees.
I have received so many different recommendations on how the floor should be constructed. Everything from a platon membrane with 10cm insulation on a floating floor to simply laying a synthetic carpet on the concrete floor. The latter option is the one I prefer as it is simply the cheapest. Any moisture can then rise through the carpet and be ventilated out. The space to be converted is not large and is about 18 square meters. Vents are in the garage door, and additional ones will be installed in the opposite wall at the far end of the garage.

I know this is a bit scant information, but I would gladly take your advice.

We placed such a mat on our basement floor. Feels like a furnished room after that. The alternative was to break up the floor, insulate and install underfloor heating and a new slab. Doesn't feel like it would have been worth it.

It seems like you already have two good options.
The Platon mat with insulation is something I would have recommended if you were making it into a bedroom where you spend a lot of time and where good air quality is an absolute must.
A synthetic mat possibly complemented with a vapor-tight foil underneath should work sufficiently well for a home theater where you spend limited time.

Thank you!
Vapor-tight foil, what does it add? Does it act as a moisture barrier? And what happens then with potential moisture?

Thanks! How long have you had that solution? And what is the humidity level in the space?

3 years. The room is part of a (drained) basement. When I taped plastic on the floor before this, there was no moisture in the plastic. During parts of the year, there is naturally high humidity in the basement, but we have a dehumidifier running in the laundry room which is also in the basement.
