Hi,
I would like to learn how to design a sprinkler system for residential use. I'm thinking of creating a DIY system for my house. Sure, I could create my own solution based on intuition and without standards, but I still think it's unnecessary to reinvent the wheel when there might be experience to benefit from.

I need access to SS-EN 12845:2015+A1:2020 titled Automatic Sprinkler Systems - Design, Installation and Maintenance and I'm too stingy to want to pay 1675 SEK + VAT for a 216-page PDF document. There is also some other good literature to read up on the subject, such as Sprinkerhandboken and SBF120:8, for 953 SEK and 570 SEK + VAT respectively, but these handbooks should be read in combination with the SS-EN 12845:2015 standard.

Does anyone know if it's possible to borrow these standards and books from the library? For example, doesn't the Royal Library have all the documents ever published in Sweden (legal deposit copies)? Can I just go there and ask them to dig up what I need?

Many thanks in advance.

I have personally searched quite a bit for similar works and haven't had any luck. There might be something at the technical universities' libraries or so, but nothing I've found.

Apparently, there are "legal deposit laws" in Sweden about the printers' obligation to deliver a copy of published works to the National Library, and since 2015 also for digitally published documents. The purpose of the law is supposed to be that everyone has the right to knowledge. Sounds lovely. :)

I assume that SIS standards cannot be easily borrowed from the library (e.g., log in and download), since tech companies can spend large amounts on purchasing standards and technical literature from the SIS publisher (such technical books can, as suggested, be unreasonably priced for private individuals).

Yes, I don't know how these align with the legal deposit laws. But what I can understand is that there SHOULD be:

Thanks for the link! That sounds like a viable option, you can order the standard, sit in the library reading room and read it, and take notes on anything of interest in a notebook.

Hello,

I think you should read the sprinkler handbook, and maybe if you're extremely interested, glance at the standard when the handbook refers to it. Reading just the standard usually doesn't make one very wise.
