Well, first time logged in and I hope I'm writing in the right forum.
Anyway, I'm wondering if it's possible to put tiles or mosaic in the sink? It might sound strange, but I saw a picture in an interior design magazine a while back of a nice sink with tiles in it. It was probably built that way from the start. But I have a regular metal sink (or whatever they are usually made of) and I want it to look nice when I stand and look down into it, as it feels like I'm washing dishes all day long.
If it's too tricky to make it fit tightly around the drain hole, maybe I can do it on my outdoor sink at the summer cottage. It's not so fussy there.
All tips and advice are very welcome!

Probably won't work very well and even if it does, it will be incredibly dirty if you don't maintain it OFTEN.

Try it on the outdoor sink first if you absolutely must.

Some tips/ideas that certain interior designers come up with have little to do with the boring everyday life.

But how am I going to get the tiles to stick then? Should I "roughen" the surface first? Or just go for it and hope for the best?

Would almost bet that it won't adhere to the metal, in that case, you would probably need to make a whole new construction with a different base, waterproof layer, and the whole shebang.

Now it starts to sound like a big construction project and not a fun craft... But why is it so difficult to get it to stick? Can it really be that way? On the other hand, maybe it's not that hard to build a smaller basin that fits in the sink. Maybe I can tile on MDF boards? But perhaps it will get damp underneath? How would you do it?

I don't think it'll ever stick, not with adhesive anyway.

But oh well, to make one, you probably need those blocks used to build walls for bathtubs (check the forum for names, they are available at most hardware stores) carve/route/axe or somehow hollow out a basin. Apply waterproofing and then tile as usual.

I don't think it'll be easy with the drainage etc., but it's worth a try.

The alternative is simply to use silicone (preferably non-toxic), glue the tiles, grout with silicone, and it'll probably hold for a while. How fresh it REALLY is under the tiles, I dare not say in either case.

I would probably sand, then glue, then seal, and then paint the seals with enamel varnish outside first to check if it works.
