Ahoy!!

Going to drywall an entire floor of a house my partner and I have bought. How should one calculate the amount of drywall needed? We have calculated the square footage of the walls and ceiling, but haven't subtracted for walls and windows.

However, we have estimated that the area for windows and doors is roughly 47m2. Each sheet is 3m2. 47m2 divided by 3m2 is 15.6 sheets.

But since you might be able to use all sheets/scraps optimally, I wonder how many sheets I should subtract from the initial calculation. 15 sheets or less?

Confusing?

Would not have deducted at all for windows, it's mostly junk what you get out of those pieces.

The only thing you need to do is calculate the total area you need, add 10% extra and that might be enough. You place full sheets over doors and windows and then cut away and discard what's left. Remember to never start with a full sheet in a corner, cut away about 7cm so the putty edge disappears. So, no deductions for doors and windows!

You should probably add rather than subtract, on the contrary, add a few slices so you can afford to make mistakes, etc. I would probably add about 10%.

There you go, and thanks for the help. We will probably add on instead of subtract.
