Does anyone know a simple way to calculate approximately how many running meters of decking will be needed for my deck?
Another question, in which direction should the decking be laid with consideration to the sun and such?

Depends a bit on the width of the decking you will use. Personally, I will build our veranda with 28x120 and then it takes 8 linear meters/sqm.
also pondering that:
120 mm wide, 5 mm air -> 125 mm -> 1000/128=8 -> 8 m/m2
the waste, however, my supplier says that their printed is delivered in intervals of 300 mm lengths, with cc = 600 on the joists I should be able to pick out exactly the right lengths, and get basically no waste at all. A couple of percent he thought. I, who feared towards 25-30%

when we built our patio, we paid a little extra to get the right lengths.
