On the byggmax site, you can currently (24 July 2011, 21:00) read that "Läkt 25x25mm" is being discontinued. This dimension is perfect for various small craft projects where you don't need fine planed moldings. I'll be unhappy if it goes extinct!

Does anyone have any inside information?
Might they perhaps use the bärläkt dimension as ströläkt?

There are other stores...

Personally, I think their selection is disastrously bad and it's only gotten worse over the years... :(

Not in Borlänge. =/ Not so convenient and close at least. There's probably a brädgård somewhere where you might get in if you're nice and are home during office hours. Or maybe I just have bad experiences with brädgårdar? ;)

I experience it the other way around. It may have gotten a bit worse on the wood side, but I feel the rest of the range has expanded. When it comes to the wood range, I miss "gjutlist" in Byggmax's range.

generally dislike Byggmax, poor quality on the wood, unknowledgeable staff, and the material is hardly very cheap compared to real building merchants if you manage to talk your way into some discounts.
No, thank you, I prefer a real building merchant who can, if they don't stock it, bring in all the items you might need.

Don't know how often it's used for roofing jobs. I myself use the tegelläkten as battens. Doesn't everyone do that?

We stopped using 25x25 for roofing a long time ago, they just keep breaking all the time, so we almost always use the same as bärläkten 25x50. Sometimes we get 25x38 but it's on the verge of having the same phenomenon, that is, brittle and breaks at the knots during handling.

I don't always share your opinion regarding the quality... I have a bad experience with a so-called real building merchant who delivered decking and timber for a friend's deck construction. Crooked, knotty, etc. Despite a good discount (20%), it was more expensive than Byggmax for him. I myself bought better timber at Byggmax for my deck construction.

Some always insist that the dealership and original parts are the only thing that is right for the car. Designer jeans for 1000kr instead of Dressmans for 200kr, etc. Thank you for existing so the expensive giants survive, so I can continue going to Byggmax, Biltema, and Dressman ;)

I'm using 25x38 as strö and 25x50 as bärläkt, because it feels significantly sturdier.

But note that TS wasn't talking about use on the roof as ströläkt but rather:
"This dimension is perfect for various small DIY projects where you don't need nicely planed moldings. I'll be unhappy if it goes away! "
:)

But it certainly looks like it has been discontinued. However, sometimes a product disappears from Byggmax only to come back later. I assume it might be because they are changing suppliers or the model of the item.

Sure, the quality can be terrible even at other building suppliers, receiving crooked, knotty, and unusable wood. But a good relationship with the sales representative usually pays off.

BM is closest to me, and if I need to supplement a single plank or something else, I usually go to BM. But I miss the expertise and wide selection available elsewhere. It's hardly possible to build an entire house with Byggmax's range:S

I also never prefer taking the car to an authorized workshop, nor do I buy jeans for thousands ;) haha

That's true. So if you have that as a firm requirement - absolutely EVERYTHING for the whole house must be bought at one and the same place - then you will have to rule out Byggmax. And then just continue on - I must buy all my food in one store, all my clothes should be purchased from one single place...
But for those who are willing to visit more than one store during the construction period, Byggmax might be worth checking out.

Some things are perfectly okay to buy at byggmax, but you must pass by there because driving there without knowing if they have what you're looking for doesn't work when you have a job...

I recently bought steel tracks there as they charge 35:- for a 3000mm one, while Beijer Bygg charges 77:- for a 2500mm one just because it says gyproc on it...

However, I don't like to buy lumber there because there are much better places to visit around here...

But then it must be good that they have inventory status on their website? To my knowledge, it's the only building shop that has that service. It works for everything except the timber, because you can only see the number of linear meters, not which lengths they have.

I don't know if you can trust it because when I urgently needed to get hold of glulam recently, it said they had 8 pieces of 90x315 at 4m in stock, but when I got there, there were only 2 pieces, which was enough for me but still quite a loss on their inventory... ;)
