I have a jötul 620 FRL that I am planning to build in. The idea was to place calcium silicate boards on top, but there isn't really a good support for them. This cast iron edge is not as sturdy as I thought. How do you do it? Close-up of a Jøtul 620 FRL wood stove corner showing metal edges and screws, highlighting instability concerns for building support.

Hi!

I'm planning to do the same thing with a Jøtul 620 FH
How did it go for you?
Do you have any good tips? :)

Regards, Martin

Not very good, but I was surprised by how very light the calcium silicates are and still placed on the edge. Probably the plaster is a bigger concern. Brick chimney with stacked calcium silicate blocks coated in plaster. Construction tools and debris are scattered on the floor in a room under renovation.

Nice, I will make one that looks like an old open fireplace, the tricky part is that it should jut out like a screen in front of the stove :) Are the panels resting directly on the stove?
Attaching a picture of our project, just at the starting stage so far :)

  • A partially constructed old-style fireplace with exposed bricks and a chimney opening, surrounded by wooden flooring in a modern interior setting.
My shelves rest at the front directly on the stove (or on the frame then) and at the back on the built-up base under the stove.
