Searched the forum but haven't seen a thread discussing the topic.
The doors in the house are quite shabby and have odd dimensions.
I have attempted renovation, i.e., sanding, filling, priming, and painting by the book. Unfortunately, they still give a "wavy" impression (wooden frame, with masonite).
I am now considering whether using double 18mm MDF boards is the right way to go. It will be quite heavy, but the original doors are heavy as it is. Additional weight doesn't matter.
I think that with double boards glued together, it will be easy to rout out the lock case, etc.
So, ...is it feasible? (I have a decent set of Festool machines in the garage)
Are there any obvious disadvantages to building doors out of MDF?

The only disadvantages are that the cut edge is difficult to paint; what you could do then is make the door slightly too small, paint it, and then glue on an edge strip, 6-7mm thick, for example oiled/laquered oak around would probably look nice.
Or why not build out of thinner MDF, 7mm for example, between these place a grid pattern with 7mm MDF "studs" for stiffness.
Alternatively, you buy a door; if it's too large, cut it down and insert a planed strip that you glue in place, if it's too small then maybe you can glue an edge strip on. You don't have to buy a new door.

MDF is not ideal for screwing from the edge side and that's where the hinges will sit, which also have to support a lot of weight.
Make a frame of pine, extra wood at the lock case, strut piece in the middle of the door. Fill with Styrofoam sheets and press two 7 mm MDF on each side. In that case, you should preferably have access to a good press.
