At the summer cabin, we want to store some firewood against a shed. The wood is for the hot tub that's nearby and for grilling in a fire pit. We have built a floor using 45x70 and old decking. Due to a boulder I don't feel like breaking at the moment, everything is raised a couple of decimeters off the ground.
Now to the question, how do I best make walls so the wood doesn't roll out to the sides and a simple roof? We want it to be as simple as possible yet durable, of course. We have more decking (28/120) and 45x70 that we would like to use.

Stack of firewood on a raised platform made of wood planks and concrete blocks, next to a green utility shed. Large rocks are visible beneath the platform.

Hello

Do you want the storage to be the same length as the house wall or shorter?

I would start by laying out slabs on the ground so that there is an even support under the entire length and width that the storage will have.

If it's possible to screw into the wall, it will be easier to anchor the storage. But you want a 5-10 cm distance between the house wall and the wood to avoid the wall being damaged by moisture/insects from the wood. So attach some battens to the wall first, which the storage can be screwed into.

You can base it on something like this.

Install a sparse wall at the back made of 22x120 so the facade stays dry and the firewood doesn't fall through. Set it 10-15 cm from the current facade.
A frame of 45x70 and then add a facade of 22x120. If you plan to dry the firewood on site, leave gaps in the facade; otherwise, a board and batten panel works.
Create at least two sections so you can empty one at a time and have support for the firewood.
Doors/hatches on the front depend on whether you have dry firewood and where the precipitation usually comes from.
A sloped roof with metal sheeting, felt, or 22x120 decking depends on your preference. If you use decking, lay it like a board and batten panel and possibly paint and/or tar it.

Thanks for the great tips!
One thing I'm wondering about is if it's possible to screw the wall studs on the outside of the floor joists or if they have to stand on the floor and be attached with angle brackets or something. And maybe no vertical studs are needed at all, just paneling and some cross braces? Would that work considering it's 28mm decking?

Jag byggde en ”quick’n dirty” variant i somras med det som låg i virkeshögen.
