Building plastic instead of beam seal?
Hello everyone!
I'm going to place a wooden beam against a part of the foundation wall that protrudes inside the inner walls of the garage. What special properties does sill paper have that make it superior to regular construction plastic? Regular construction plastic should work just as well as a moisture barrier, right?
Grateful for answers!

Sure, the plastic is tight, but for how long? I believe sillpapp lasts significantly longer than construction plastic - it all depends on how long the stud is supposed to sit there. If it's going to be there for ages, then it's a bit silly to use something with less durability than sillpapp.
I agree with Tyresö and Krawk, it's better to go with syllpapp. It is tougher and resists wear much better than plastic, even if you have several layers of plastic. Additionally, syllpapp is designed to prevent moisture migration from the concrete to the wood, which plastic is also meant to do, but as mentioned, it is a more fragile material.
Thank you! Wise words.
