Building an outdoor ping pong table
Hello!
Looking for input, ideas. Maybe someone has a ping pong table outdoors...
Today we have an older Stiga, intended for indoor use. Unfortunately, it doesn't fit in the basement, but we have an excellent spot in the garden
We like playing ping pong! Of course, the particle board can't withstand being outside in the rain, the table is completely about to give up.
What is appropriate to invest in?
The easiest is, of course, to buy a new table designed for outdoor use. They are in the price range of 6-8tkr and upwards. Are there any tips on a table that lasts?
More fun is to build our own table. I have thought, option 1: keep the legs from the current table, buy formplywood at something like Byggmax. Cut, paint edges, screw it on.
Option 2. Buy trailer flooring (flakplyfa), cut to size, build your own legs from lecasten. I think it could look nice and be more of a fixed installation in the garden.
If anyone has ideas, especially from making their own table, I gladly welcome tips. 😊

What do you mean by "that lasts"? What should it withstand? Should the table stand outside all the time (even in winter), or just periodically/summer season?A A bygg said:
I bought this relatively cheap table a year ago, and I'm super happy with it. However, I wouldn't have chosen it if it was to be outside all year.

In that case, I would choose the table I linked to, with the accompanying cover to put on during the season when the table is not in use.A A bygg said:
Regarding your thoughts on building your own table, I wonder if there is sufficiently wide formplyfa. A standard-sized ping pong table is 274 cm long and 152.5 cm wide. That means each half of the table measures 137 x 152.5 cm. I'm not an expert on formplyfa, but I haven't seen any wider than 125 cm. It will feel very DIY, and not great for play, with a joint 12 cm from the net.
I've never used flakplyfa. A quick Google search suggests that the dimensions might work with that product (e.g. 3050 x 1525 mm), but such a board appears to cost from 2000 kr and up (plus shipping unless you have the luck of finding it locally), so it would still be a significant expense.
We bought this year's Cornilleau 300x outdoor table, can really recommend it, 10-year warranty. I think building one is not worth it; it can't be easy to get the right bounce, etc. it's so incredibly easy with something that works and is well designed. This table works great in every way.A A bygg said:Hi!

We currently have an older Stiga, intended for indoor use. Unfortunately, it doesn't fit in the basement, but it has a perfect spot in the garden
We like to play ping pong! Obviously, the particle board can't withstand standing out in the rain, the table is completely about to give up.
What is suitable to invest in?

More fun is to build your own table. I have thought, option 1: keep the legs from the current table, buy formply from something like Byggmax. Saw, paint edges, screw down.
Option 2. Buy flooring for a trailer (flakplyfa), saw to size, build your own legs from leca blocks. I think it can be nice and a more permanent installation in the garden.
If anyone has ideas, preferably from their own table, I'll gladly accept tips. 😊
How did it go with the ping pong table?A A bygg said:Hi!
