We are planning to build a simple wind/rain/sun shelter for two ponies. Since we lease the land, we are not allowed to cast footings, and since the horses will switch pastures midway through the summer, the shelter needs to be easy to dismantle and reassemble. There is flat, firm ground to place the shelter on in both pastures.
I'm thinking the walls should consist of planks (45x95) stacked in some form of U-beams attached to the corner posts. The shelter should be open on one long side with a beam at the bottom and top of the front edge and one or two vertical beams for support. All beams 95x95.
For the roof, I'm considering whether we could use a thick, rubber-like tarp that is fastened all around.
Then there's the anchoring to the ground. The size will be approximately 3x4.8, and I thought the end beams on the short sides should extend about 20 cm. What do you think about using bent rebar pressed into the ground around the "runners"? Or do you have any other tips that don't require major ground alterations?
