Hello!
I am planning to build a wall-mounted bike rack and am uncertain about the durability of my construction. The idea is for the build to be both stylish and practical.
I am planning to attach two pieces of 45x70x2000MM pine battens to the wall. In these battens, I intend to drill four holes that are 40MM. In the holes, I want to glue dowel rods that will function as arms to support the bikes. Two arms will support one bike, so the entire rack is intended to hold two bikes.
My question is whether a 45MM depth for the hanging arrangement will withstand the pressure of the bike's weight?
Other tips on solutions or thoughts on how I can approach this are also welcome!
Note: The images are not to scale or in the correct color, just a guideline for how I am planning the design to look.

Haha okay then
I think the biggest concern is probably if the timber shrinks. Thinking if you either insert a wedge from the backside like you do on axes. Or if you don't drill all the way and screw from the back to anchor it better.
Here you might find some good ideasL ludwigdanieloliwer said:Hello!

Thanks for the tip! So if I, for example, drill 35MM and secure the dowel from behind with a screw. How much weight do you think it can handle?T Tompafix said:
