Hello,

I'm in the process of installing a wood-burning stove in a 1.5-story house. The placement is difficult, the walls aren't aligned and I had to tear down part of a wall on the second floor and move a door 20 cm. Then I encountered 9 electrical conduits and a load-bearing stud, but that's fixed now. It's a real hassle how everything seems to go wrong. :D

Now I'm thinking of building a rounded wall section, about 480 mm in diameter using curved-cut plywood for the framing. The question is:

Which material is flexible enough to be suitable as wall material? Masonite or thin plywood? Where can I find thin plywood, like 3-4 mm?

Thin plywood - that's what you use when making curved casting molds (some molds are quite curved). I don't know what thicknesses are available, but 4 - 5 mm is certainly available. When building, glue layer upon layer until the wall is stable.

Every serious lumberyard/hardware store has the thickness of plywood you need.
 
Do you want to clad the chimney?

One option could be to use these Styrofoam/cement boards used in bathrooms. Like Lux board. Easily shaped to the desired form and can then, for example, be plastered and painted.

The chimney goes up in the middle of a wall, and I want to make a curved shape on the wall around the chimney with a safety distance of 50 mm to the outer casing. It is a premodul chimney, that is, a prefab chimney.

It's just a matter of building with thin plywood. If it becomes too "vek" then glue on additional layers and so on... until it feels stable.
 
Tracked thin mdf would probably work.
 
We have a similar place, and I was initially planning to use plyfa as well. But now that we've had it and have been burning for a while, you can notice the cozy warmth radiating from the chimney when we burn. So now I'm considering doing something in sheet metal instead, so the heat doesn't escape. Additionally, it would be good if it can be opened for chimney inspection too. It's probably also easier to solve with a sheet metal that you can screw onto the edges. Our chimney is one of those that is insulated so you can have it directly against wood. It becomes like a warm tall radiator on the upper floor when we burn, and it's a shame to build that away.

If you want plywood, search for aircraft plywood. It's the thin flexible one you need for this.
