It looks better without trim. If the difference between the wall and the door is large, it can sometimes be more attractive with a smyglist to cover and then add trim.
 
In the bathroom wall where the door is located, I have the following:

Tile 9
Gypsum 13
Chipboard 11
Stud 70
Chipboard 11
Gypsum 13

= 127mm (+sealing layer, adhesive etc.)

So I bought a 92mm frame and added a 43mm strip, and the result turned out really well.
