Build in staircase - make a stylish railing
Absolutely. But one should also be aware that this rule only applies to spaces that children have access to, and one must then assume specifically the children who can fit their head through the current hole, i.e. about 0-4 months in my case. These children cannot be in the staircase, even without a gate.J justusandersson said:
There have been life-threatening accidents where approximately 3-year-olds have squeezed through a gap just over 10 cm with their bodies, but because they can't get their heads through, they end up hanging by their necks. Sideways, their shoulders and hips are so small.A arkTecko said:
Where we lived before, we had a U-shaped staircase with two curved corners. There were three straight handrails, one on each wall side, and they almost met in the corners. I never felt that the height of them was strange, however, you didn't use the handrails in the corners because they were so far away from the walking line.
Now I'm bringing up this thread again because it's time to tackle the stairs. I received so many valuable responses last time!
A paint stripper has been acquired to remove the old paint. This will take some time due to kids, etc., but I'm thinking initially to first get down to the bare wood, then install stair nosing, then sand, then the risers. Correct order? Immediate questions arise:

- List for stair treads 40 mm? I've looked at the Krus molding at listspecialisten.se but maybe there are good alternatives?
- How to install the moldings? Is it enough to glue?
- The stair treads are a bit rounded at the edges, so there will probably be a gap between the molding and the tread, what should I fill it with? It feels too complicated to plane down the front of the step.
- Material for the risers I've asked before, but it would be great with a very clear tip, 20 mm birch plywood or whatever it might be.
- To curve the risers, would you eyeball it or draw nicely? How much should it taper off on each side? 1mm? 3mm?
- Color choice - I want this to be as classic as possible. What type of paint? And do you think I should go all white or some combination? Yes, and my wife is also worried about slipping.

Hey!
How did it go with the stairs? Moving into the new house soon, considering something similar with the stairs there.
