Hello. New to the forum but have been reading quite a bit over the last few weeks.

Now to the question: why does no one build with sandwich elements horizontally, meaning sheet metal-pir insulation-sheet metal elements. With a metal frame, for example, 100x100mm beams, with, for example, 4m spacing along the long walls, standing on the inside of the house and a beam on top of them where the roof trusses are placed.

Then boards standing on the inside that are screwed in with metal screws and drywall on the boards. The outside the same with wood facade, for example.

The advantages are
#narrower external walls (140mm insulation would be enough)

#no thermal bridges

#no wood that can mold inside the wall

#the house would quickly become windproof and insulated (each element is a little over 1m high)

#the elements are light and you can get them in optional lengths (min.2m) so by the windows you cut out a bit on the lower and upper element.

#the square meter price I'm not sure of, but it should be around 500kr/sqm

In my world, there are only advantages except for the metal frame, which can be a bit unsightly but can be partially built in, especially the upper part when the house has about 3.3-3.6m inner height depending on the element manufacturer.

What do you others think?

That's how I want to build too. But most people want to live in a house that looks like a traditional house.
 
You don't think it's due to the cost of the frame? If it had been cheaper overall, they would probably have built that way.

Multi-family houses are almost only built in a similar way today, but they often need a concrete/steel frame to support the number of floors.
 
I don't think there's much difference in time. Personally, I would probably rather weld a bit than nail together plank pieces, insulate, staple plastic, etc. It becomes insulated and weatherproof in one go. Some of the beams I could get for scrap price. What do you think about the building method itself then? It basically becomes a mini hall.
 
Now, the majority of houses being constructed in Sweden are not built stick-by-stick but as modules, including villas and holiday homes. They usually just have a sill, walls, and then the roof trusses, right? For these, adding a steel framework becomes significantly more expensive and complicated.

For apartment buildings, most construction is done with concrete, Kingspan, Alucubond, among others, and wall elements like regular walls.

For your own small project, I see no obstacle. As long as you have proper drawings and construction documentation, there should be no problem in building that way.

How did it go?? Also pondering a bit in the same way.
