Hi, I'm planning to build a new tightly sheeted metal balcony as we're tired of the dripping from our decking floor one, which I had to tear down as the wall needed refurbishment...

Width 310cm, depth 200cm, and we still have the old pressure-treated posts that are 95x95 and approximately 150cm out from the wall.

How should I dimension the frame?

I'm thinking of either hanging the joists out from the house in joist hangers on the timber wall or setting a 45x120/145 that the joists can rest on, which is better there?

What should I use for the load-bearing beam out between the posts that the joists will rest on? What dimension is sufficient for the joists in the framework? The span will be about 150cm with a 50cm overhang after that?

I plan to screw down tongue-and-groove boards if it's stable enough, which will then be clad with double-folded metal (by the metalworker) and lay decking over it, with the underside of the entire balcony painted white so it looks nice against the front door underneath.

I would be grateful for tips so I can get it done before winter comes :)

Sounds a bit weak... 90x315 glulam (66x315 can suffice depending on snow load) with floor joists 45x220 I would think is more "standard" sizing...

Keep in mind that a lot of debris will accumulate and turn into soil over time, which can start to grow in if you can't lift and clean the decking!

Ok 90x315 sounds rough and even 45x220?

On the balcony I have had for a number of years, the beam between the posts that the supporting beam hung on was 45x195 and the supporting beam 45x145 (max span at 60cc is 2.3m)

It shouldn't be much heavier with a dense balcony compared to a pressure-treated sparse balcony, right?

I have a bit of a tight space between the balcony door on the upper floor and the front door below, about 48cm, and I want a good sheet metal uplift under the glass section/balcony door as it faces west and it's prone to heavy rain there.

Great with tips on how to solve this in the best way :)
