I have a small brick-built extension to the barn. The plan is to make the doorway larger and convert this space into a motorcycle garage. When I removed the old door frame, several bricks above the door frame came loose. I knew they were loose. My question is now how to best restore this.
A: Get some form of beam and embed it over the doorway.
B: With the help of support from underneath, re-mortar the bricks that have come loose.
C: Build a frame/door frame out of wood and then just patch it over and around the frame.

  • Brick garage wall with a partially demolished doorway. Loose bricks and debris on the ground. Interior shows a wooden box and a black container.
  • Brick wall with missing bricks above a doorway in a barn extension, showing fallen masonry and exposed interior.

Insert a rule above the new door frame that is attached with expanding foam. Patch the concrete wall with plaster mortar.

I had cast a leca beam to place over the door.
Tap away a couple of stones on the sides. Build a box to cast in, and mix leca balls with cement and sand. Place the beam and mortar in the loose stones above.

No reinforcement?
There are ready-made lecabalks to buy as well, right?

Yes, of course, reinforcement is needed, I forgot to mention that. There are ready-made ones available for purchase, but it's easy to cast one yourself.
