Hello!
I have two questions, see below.
What we are going to do is install a fireplace insert in our open fireplace. But to make it look a bit nicer, we thought of "muratill" it a little. As you can see in the picture, it is staircase-shaped on the sides. We are now thinking of building these up so that the front edge becomes straight.
Questions:
1) Does anyone see any disadvantage with "muratill" the front edge? That is, is there any advantage to leaving it as it is?
2) Can I use ordinary bricks for this? Or do I need to ask for some special type of brick?
Grateful for answers.
Best regards,
Fredrik

Hello!
I don't see any downside to closing it up with masonry.
Since you have a spiskasett, it does not need to be any special stone. For simplicity, I would use lightweight concrete that can be cut to fit the stones http://www.beijerbygg.se/templates/BB_Produkt.aspx?id=27752
