Brainstorming for how to cover a crack.
We recently bought a house, and for various reasons, a crack has now appeared in our daughter's newly painted room. It runs from floor to ceiling and is about 5 mm wide. It's built with particle boards, and the crack is between these. We will probably seal it with silicone and then attach a nice white board (the room is white) along the crack. Now I need help with what fun things we can do with this board.
Some thoughts I have are:
hooks (but daughter is only 2, so she won't be able to use all of them)
clothespins to hang drawings and pictures
paint with a nice stencil.
but I want more tips! none of these feel perfect.

Silicone is probably not a great choice if you want to paint over it someday or get something to adhere over the joint.

I’m not sure if it’s possible to keep drying cracks together (see my thread next door about drying cracks) but latex sealant can usually be painted over. I actually bought one for marine use as this one should withstand the largest movements. I have only used it on the balcony railing so far, and there it could be painted over with alkyd oil paint at least.

Maybe you can turn the board into one of those "this is how tall I am" measuring boards? Measure and draw in all the centimeters, leaving space to write the date, etc.
I forgot to mention that I have painted with waterborne paint on latex caulk. That worked fine as well, so I don't think the type of paint matters – but ask in the paint store just to be sure.

Nah, she might not want to continue measuring then. At least not write, so everyone can see that she still thinks it's fun ;-) But you can make a "thing" out of filling in the centimeters all the way up to the ceiling. Maybe you can add some fun info like "this is how tall a full-grown Indian elephant/camel/moose/reindeer is."
If she finds it boring when she's 15, you can always paint over it (possibly save the growth from childhood years for nostalgic reasons) and put hooks or whatever fits on the upper part then.

If the crack is going to be hidden with a board, why bother about the crack underneath? Mouldings are often placed between the chimney and the wall precisely so that cracks can exist and move without being visible.
