Hey

I'm playing around with a chair and need to bend a piece of planed pine that is about 12x40cm, 21mm planed pine (backrest).

We're talking about a bend that is 1-1.5 cm at the deepest point.

How do I do it?

When you write "ryggstöd," I imagine a piece that should hold its bent shape by itself. By wetting and heating (basa), you can bend the piece more than would otherwise be possible without it cracking. But it will not hold the shape and will straighten again when you release it. There are a couple of ways to achieve the shape. You can laminate the piece to its form. The multiple thin parts are easy to bend, and when they are glued together, they hold the shape. Or you can take a thicker piece of wood and saw out the bent shape.

Ok, thanks for the response.
So if I take plywood, will it hold its shape fairly well after I've bent it? Does it spring back? How long should it remain under pressure?

Spring back/straighten?

Plywood also straightens out. I mean you glue several thin pieces together into a thicker one and hold it in the desired shape while the glue dries.
