We are ready to start transforming our old boiler room into a bedroom now that we have district heating. We are considering what to do with the floor. Currently, there is a slope in the floor and also a floor drain. What is the cheapest and easiest option, self-leveling compound or subfloor system? We are not too confident about using self-leveling compound, but with a little help, we might dare to try it. Once we have leveled the floor, we plan to use a Platon mat.

The subfloor type Nivell has the advantage that it can easily be changed in the future if one (or the next buyer) would like to convert the boiler room into a laundry room instead (sometimes laundry rooms are more pleasantly located as bedrooms than the boiler room which is often in the middle). Regardless, you should think a little about what to do with the floor drain to avoid any unpleasant surprises with odor or backflow in case of flooding.
