Is there one somewhere? Apparently, I need to spackle my not-so-successful slab.

How thinly can you spackle? I would prefer to just fill in the low spots.

Will it be smooth enough for painting, or does the spackle need to be sanded somehow afterward?

Can I spackle half the room first and then do the other half if I section it off, or will there be an unavoidable crack zone there? If I can do half at a time, I won't have to empty the whole place.

Primer is supposedly good to have at the base, but what have I missed?

As a rule of thumb, a thinner layer is more likely to peel or crumble than a thicker layer.
However, layer thickness can vary depending on the self-leveling compound you choose.
It is best to read the laying instructions for the specific compound and follow them 100%.

It is important that the substrate is completely clean and primed correctly (again, read the laying instructions for your compound).
After leveling, you don't need to do anything with the surface that you wouldn't need to do with the concrete slab.

Joints can be made, preferably where a future wall will hide any cracking.

Hire a contractor! It takes him a few hours to do, and you have someone to hold accountable if it doesn't turn out well!!!
It's very difficult to float thin layers - it's worth the money to let someone who knows how to do the job!

That was what I wanted but those who are willing to take the job cannot do it within the time frame I can accept and by that I mean when in time and not the number of working hours, so therefore I will probably have to do it myself whether I want to or not........

if you have K-rauta nearby you can check there, I thought I saw a good brochure with them earlier today, then if you want to divide, there are good skummgummiremsor (weird word :-?) with tape on them that you use in such situations. But maybe a regular plank is enough if it's flat, and it shouldn't matter how thickly you spackle as long as the base is rigid, right? :-/
