We are about to start renovating the basement and have a few questions I've tried to find answers to. The plan is that we will live in the basement for a while after the renovation and in the future, it might be rented out during, for example, the summer. Showing some pictures so you know what it looks like.
This is the ceiling, I think it's a siporex board underneath and then plastered/spackled.
The wall on the right is an interior wall that will be opened up a bit.
The wall straight ahead is an exterior wall and I don't know if there's a siporex board there, is it just to drill a hole and check?
On the walls, I have wanted to put up painted panels. But how should I go about it? If there are siporex boards on the wall, can the panels be attached directly to them? Or is it better with steel studs 45x45 and then attach the panels? I am especially thinking about the exterior walls as they are most susceptible to moisture, but should the same be done for interior walls?
it is always risky to convert basements into living space, they are not designed for that. Judging by the window, the basement is really below ground. The wall under the window looks a bit deteriorated at the bottom.
To rent out living space there are a lot of requirements you need to find out, unless you want to rent out on the black market to vulnerable groups.
What does the exterior of the basement look like? Has it been re-drained and insulated with something like isodrän, or is there soil directly against the wall?
The idea is mostly that when the children come home over the summer, they have their own place for themselves. Since it has a separate entrance and bathroom and everything already.
On the outside, it is re-drained with isodrän. There is a door into the room about 2 meters that opens directly at ground level, which is also the entrance.
