This material has been behind a stove in a cabin built in the 70s.
I'm guessing asbestos due to the area of use and the fibers that are visible if you look at the broken edges.
I wasn't the one who tore this down, I'm just helping to dispose of the waste.
What do you others think?

Edit: the board itself is like a cement panel.

  • Gloved hand holding a cement-like board, possibly asbestos, with visible fibers along the edge, used behind a 1970s stove in a cabin.
  • Close-up of a cement-like board with frayed fibers at the edge, possibly asbestos, previously used behind a stove in a 1970s cabin.
Yes, it's not unthinkable. Handle it as if it contains asbestos or send it for analysis for safety.

Best answer

High risk that it is asbestos.
A few extra tips beyond the usual with face masks, etc:
Wetting it down before handling temporarily binds the dust. Do not use a vacuum cleaner. Wet wipe the entire room.
And don't worry unnecessarily.

It is outside and under a press and is wet as hell. I am not worried about the asbestos as such, but now it has become much more complicated to deal with the junk:confused:.

Check with the recycling center in your municipality, in our municipality you can drop it off at the dump for free as a private person

It is free to dispose of waste in our municipality as well, as well as in other municipalities I've dealt with. So it's probably relatively common for it to be so.

Check it out, it doesn't necessarily mean there will be problems.

Or break it into smaller pieces and bury it.

Well, would you look at that!!
It was free to dump it at the recycling center here in Norrtälje!
In my municipality, I had to pack everything in plastic bags and seal them with tape, meet up with an excavator operator who sat in his cabin with a face mask, place the bag in his scoop, which he then drove away to dump in a hole and covered it over.
