Hello,

Feeling a bit anxious about the demolition of an old bathroom, the house is from the 50s, and the bathroom was likely refurbished somewhere in the 70s or 80s.

I have the classic asbestos pipes for ventilation in the attic, so they need to be removed carefully, but I also found a tricky additional insulation material behind the wall's drywall, see picture. It almost looks like jackofoam but seems to have some form of fiberglass (?) in a thin layer on the backside against the outer wall. Should I be worried about asbestos?

Best regards,
Johan

  • A piece of insulation material with a fibrous backing, resembling Jackofoam, is held in hand against a white background.
  • Close-up of a removed section of old bathroom wall, revealing yellow insulation resembling foam with possible fiberglass backing against the outer wall.
I guess carbamide foam with fiberglass reinforcement!

Yes, it definitely looks like fiberglass.

Mask goes on regardless... :)

Thanks for the input!

Found this behind the wall plaster, some form of insulation that looks like tagliatelle dipped in cement.

Asbestos? Before going bananas and tearing it down...

  • Tangled insulation material resembling pasta with cement on brick wall. Possible asbestos concern during renovation.
It is träullit. That is, träull and cement.
