Last year, when we were installing new flooring in the living room and hallway, we first removed the old parquet that was there (see picture). Underneath, there were some layers of old vinyl flooring which were probably used as cushioning before the parquet was laid. But you can also see the old adhesive that the vinyl flooring was stuck with, do you think it could be asbestos?
We didn't think of this when we changed the floor, the thoughts have come afterward, so it's difficult to submit a sample now since we've laid new flooring on top.
If it is asbestos, we didn't tear off any mat that was stuck to the floor, or sand it. It would probably be worse if we had disturbed it a lot, don't you think?
As long as it is untouched, there are no problems, so you can be calm.☺
That was my thought too, it's "someone else" who tore up the carpets before us, we've just moved them... so it would have been nice if we hadn't caused too much damage if there had been asbestos in the glue!
Typical me to worry about things like this afterward, the damage is actually already done
Bumping up and seeing if we can get any more answers, and if anyone dares to guess about the glue?
Ok. The glue might contain asbestos. In some cases, older linoleum floors also had a layer of asbestos on the underside of the actual floor, which is visible as a distinct layer of gray/white/grayish-white paper-like material, so that's something to keep in mind. It can look like e.g. http://www.flickriver.com/photos/asbestos_pix/4946698425/
Only an analysis can provide answers; guesses on a forum are pointless and only create false security or false anxiety.
If the remains of the vinyl flooring weren't stuck in the glue, no significant amount of inhalable dust has been created when you removed them, regardless of whether the glue contains asbestos or not. If you haven't sanded the glue, there's nothing to worry about. If a paper-like material was found under the flooring remains, gray/white/grayish-white in color, there's a chance that material contains asbestos, and maybe a little asbestos fibers were released when you removed the floors, otherwise not.
