Did asbestos previously appear in insulation material that looks like white "wadding"?
Somewhat like white loose fill.
But, not as "shiny" as fiberglass.

I have found white "loose fill" that almost looks like "wadding," wrapped as insulation around, among other things, old indoor water pipes. In a house from the late 1800s, but which has been renovated in stages over the years.

Does anyone know?
Does anyone have a picture, or a link to a picture, showing asbestos in the form of loose fill for insulation?
If such a thing existed...

I mostly thought that asbestos concerning pipe insulation had been used in something like powder form, around pipe bends. But, I could be completely wrong.

Post a picture and you'll surely get better help.

Here comes the picture. It is not glasull, I know that for sure. Glasull is more "shiny". This is more of a matte material, like "wadding".

Also gratefully accepting tips on the brown insulation that is attached with wrapped copper wire. White, fluffy insulation material resembling wool in a plastic bag on a brown surface. Brown insulation wrapped with copper wire, resembling a matte wool-like material, in a wall crevice between wooden panels.

The brown could be camel hair (yes, it sounds incredible, but it was used in the past).
I'm unsure about the white. Probably not asbestos, but take a sample if you really need to find out. It depends a bit on what needs to be done.

Your statement about powder form (gurmassa) in pipe bends is otherwise completely correct.

send it for analysis and then you'll know. here you'll only find out what it could be.

is it burning? Maybe it's sheep's wool? I had something similar as insulation in the wall of an old stable on the farm.
