Hello,

I have started considering using an approximately 8.5-meter-long IPE beam to build a loft in the garage. The question is, what approximate price can I expect for one of these? Whether it's worth even considering or not.

I don't know which model and dimensions I should have yet, as I haven't gotten that far yet.

Best regards, Jonas

Hmm ok, so 1 "IPE Balk 140 S275JR0" at 12m costs me 2517kr + shipping?
Not a bad price, right?

Regards, Jonas

The shipping for a 12M profile can easily become ridiculously expensive.
If it's possible to construct so you end up with 2 pieces of 6 meters or 3 pieces of 4 meters, the shipping cost should decrease significantly :geek:

I should really have 8.3-8.4m actually. Which I could indeed transport with my car hauler, as long as I mark it at the back haha.

I want it completely open under the beam, hence why I'm starting to consider this instead.

IPE140 tends to hang around your span a bit.

Ok, what should one use then? It will be a loft approximately 8*3.5m.

Kind regards, Jonas

I can't do it in my head, there are calculation programs.
But can your construction project be carried out with load-bearing sheet metal instead? It CAN actually be both simpler and cheaper.

This is what it looks like today. Had to "come up with something" to get the door up, and it became a frame of studs, which was intended to continue as a floor to the loft.
