Hello, I am going to add extra insulation to my exterior wall from the outside and have now removed the old facade completely down to the log frame and will build it up again to finish with horizontal cladding.

My question is as follows.
Attached, I have drawn in two options for how to proceed.
  • Option 1:
1: Studs 45x45 mounted VERTICALLY directly on the log frame.
2: Insulation between the studs
3: Wind barrier on top of the insulation
4: Battens 28x45 mounted vertically directly on top of 45x45 studs
5: Horizontal cladding outside the battens

  • Option 2:
1: Studs 45x45 mounted HORIZONTALLY directly on the log frame.
2: Insulation between the studs
3: Wind barrier
4: Battens 34x70 mounted vertically directly over horizontal 45x45 studs.
5: Horizontal cladding outside the battens

Does anyone have tips on how I should proceed?

Thanks in advance. Regards, Espen

I would have done option 1, it must be easier to get the wall somewhat straight and nice that way.

Shouldn't you lay more than 45mm?

Regardless, alternatives are better for the nails since they then go straight through the stud (45+28).
