Hi, my wife and I have been looking at an older house from the 50s. Most of it looks good except for the surfaces, which we can fix ourselves. Then there are various blemishes. Do you think any of this is serious and needs to be addressed soon?

One of the showers (bathtub image) has holes in the wall, but there's a fresher and more newly renovated shower that can be used. The pipes and plumbing are what I'm most uncertain about. They felt sturdy, and the pipes are thick, so where I could access and see, they are not close to rusting through. Although, sometimes it's oddly routed. Most of the plumbing has been replaced at least once since the house was built, and some old pipes remain in the walls (without water connected).

The electrical work is mixed too, with some newer (grounded) and quite a bit of ungrounded electricity. Two electrical panels, one for the newer electrical system.

  • Attic space with visible wooden beams, insulation layers, and scattered sawdust on the floor.
  • Copper plumbing pipes in an older house, showing connections and some unusual routing, with holes in the wall behind them.
  • Bathtub with exposed pipes, wall holes, and a modern faucet; part of a 1950s house needing renovation.
  • Pipes and valves with varying materials, including copper and plastic, mounted on an old wall, showing plumbing setup with visible connections and joints.
  • Old plumbing with rust and new blue tubing under a 1950s house floor.
  • Rusty pipe section visible under floorboards with someone holding a plastic cover above it. The pipe appears corroded but intact.
  • Old metal pipes with visible rust and some wall corrosion in a 1950s house, highlighting potential plumbing concerns for renovation.
  • Old plumbing under sink with exposed copper pipes, a faucet, and wiring. Some rust and unusual pipe angles are visible. Mixed old and new installations.
  • Cracked brick wall under a window showing signs of wear and structural damage near an older house, highlighting potential repair needs.
