Hi
Today the tiling went wrong. First time I'm tiling. I think I know what I did wrong. 30x60 & 20x60 granite ceramic tiles, & I only applied adhesive to the wall. I was probably also a bit slow.
You live & you learn ...
Additionally, the leveling system lifts one tile a bit when you screw on the cap, so the adhesive probably needs to be fairly freshly applied.
I noticed when I came back later that many tiles were loose, so I took down more than half and scraped the adhesive off the wall and tiles. I plan to try again tomorrow.
And now to my question: Can I just brush off the back of the tiles (which I scraped today) before I start setting, or do I need to scrub them?

Thank you Mathias!
As clean as I can. Then I'll scrub them tomorrow morning. Should I scrub the wall too?
I've used a 12mm trowel, but I'm thinking if I should put adhesive on both sides, I should probably go down in size

Tomorrow nothing will come off from the tiles….
but it doesn't have to be completely free from adhesive. Just scrape off the wall so that it is smooth.
I would probably go with a slightly smaller trowel, max 10mm, but it also depends a bit on the surface. A 12mm trowel on both the tile and the wall results in a lot of adhesive….

Okay, that's great. Then I'll just brush the tiles & wall with a dry dish brush or scrub brush this morning.
Yeah, I thought so too. I have a 6 & 8mm trowel at home, so it'll be one of them.
How long does it take for the fix to set?
The packaging (Heydi) says you can grout after 8 hours. But after 8 hours the fix was still very loose. 12° in the room, but I put in a fan overnight so now it's been 17° & the fix seems hard.

The fix stays longer in the bucket, but the surface dries quickly on the wall. Max 15 min on the wall before the tiles are in place, I think it was for Kiilto that I used. When I tiled 30*60 for the first time, I didn't put more fix on the wall than for two tiles at a time. Apply the back of the tile with the flat side of the fix comb. It provides better adhesion.
Got the fix fast & sticky.
Oh, with the smooth side?
It says 20 minutes on the Heydi bag. And I was probably a bit slow at times. As I said, I probably made many mistakes.
Currently tearing off the worst dust on the backsides of the tiles and the wall.

This may also have contributed to the tiles coming loose.
I interpret the manufacturing date as March -19
If so, I will go and exchange the remaining bags
I had forgotten to remove one of the units of the leveling system (the kind that is reused whole) and it was very easy to twist the pin behind the tile and pull it out. This means the adhesive is still sticky behind the tiles. Like dough, roughly.

Got in touch with Derome & I interpreted the date correctly. The fix was old, so I will replace all the sacks. Bought it last fall...
Just to be safe, I took down the rest of the tiles as well. Starting over tomorrow.

Yeah, good that you discovered it, there's a reason why many stores have few of such items on the shelf, like grout too, poor best before date is important to check.människa said:
