4mm Pine plywood or 3mm Hardboard?

Thinner timber is not as weather-resistant, but if you paint and maintain it, it will last for many years.

If you have tips on good hinges, they are gratefully received. Ideally, something available over the counter so I can test them first.
At the house, I have ASSA 2000 locks but that seems a bit overkill for the garage doors. I'm considering installing ASSA 400 in the garage. I imagine there might be an advantage with a bolt for the swing doors. Since I don't enter through the door, I don't need to unlock from the outside. I can avoid making a hole for the cylinder outward, or alternatively, use a blanking plate. Then I either place a turn knob or a cylinder on the inside so a key is needed to unlock. (My accumulated capital is in the garage in the form of tools. No car will ever fit there.)

On the opposite door, I'm thinking of installing a bolt at the top and bottom. ASSA has some variant that is recessed into the edge that meets the other door. I couldn't be bothered to look up the one I viewed on the website right now, but it was a small flat thing.
Apparently, ASSA also has various hinges, I see now. I'll have to check the prices at the lock shop. Certainly not the cheapest on the market.

One door leaf is finished, it seems very stable (board-foam-board), glued with PU glue and nailed with brads (didn't have many clamps to press everything, so a few bags of cement acted as press tools with the floor as a counter). Paneling will wait until after the trial fitting. I'm now pondering the lock mechanism and wondering if it would be possible to modify fittings from a broken patio door - these have hooks in 4-5 places along the entire door. It would be perfect for a garage. The leaf weighs quite a bit but is manageable, and I think the largest common (110*100) hinges would work excellently if you use 4 per door.
Thanks for the update, sounds promising. My project will probably take a few more months
because there’s so much else that needs my time. I have a sliding door in place so it’s not so urgent. But the studs for the frame are at least in the garage and the saw that I will use to split them was delivered on Friday. So it’s progressing a little bit anyway.
